I had cruise control on while going over a bumpy patch of road between Flagstaff and Page, AZ. The car bounced up and down pretty hard and the TCS OFF light came on. Shortly after, the ABS and SLIP lights came on and my cruise control disengaged and would not SET for a few hours.

After restarting the car, the lights stay off for awhile, but end up all coming back on at the same time, usually after the ABS makes some buzzing noise. I have tried unplugging the battery, but that hasn't worked.

Do I just need to take it into the dealer to fix this or is there something else I can do to check before getting reamed at INFIN of Scottsdale?

Thanks.

Phil

The humming is probably caused by a relay. Check your ABS and TCS relays. I'm not sure about the I35, but oftentimes there's a relay that matches you can swap out from a non-necessary system temporarily to see if it fixes the problem.

It may also be possible that the hard impact damaged a wheel speed sensor. TCS and ABS use the same wheel speed sensors, so even one bad sensor will disable both systems. Doesn't seem very likely to me, though...my guess is the impact and failure are just an odd coincidence, especially if you're hearing the buzzing/humming noise.

Thanks, Minister. I had a feeling someone with a Maxima would end up replying. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of i35ers on here. I am in Utah for the rest of the week, and if the issue persists, then I'll have the dealer take a look when I get back. Thanks again.

I had the exact same problem in my '02 I35 a few months ago. I can't remember what it was, but it threw an engine code that told me exactly what the problem was. Check the codes... Something like crank position sensor on bank 2 or bank 1. Something like that. Let me know.

Can you please explain how I can 'Check the codes'? Thank you!

I would say if you're not sure how to check engine codes then you're probably not able to make the repairs necessary to fix the problem. Take it to a mechanic.

...but in case you are, go to autozone and tell them you want a check engine light diagnosed or that you want the code run. They'll plug something into the OBD2 port under your steering wheel and give you the specific code and what the code means. 9/10 it's straight forward repair. If the code says "O2 sensor Bank 2 fail" Get another O2 sensor, etc, etc. Good luck.
