I got a new 2004 I35 three weeks ago. To my great surprise, I find the car to be almost dreadful. The wind and road noise is so loud that I really don't want to drive it. The handling is so bad that is almost dangerous! The left foot rest is poorly placed -the leg is not straight! The heater/cooling fan is rather loud. And, to top it all off, there are drafts in car !!!!! Yes, drafts, as if little cracks are all around! You can feel small air drafts on your face and your legs as you drive -the higher the speed the worst it gets. I used to own a 1997 and 1999 Maxima's. The interior design is practically the same -has not changed since 1996! The engine is the only nice thing about the car.

Please help me someone! Is it me or is it the car? Am I the only one the experiences these things? Please share your thoughts with me. Thanks.2004 I35 Satisfaction

Has to be the car. I have a 2k2 and have NONE of those issues. The worst thing I had was some slight wind noise near the window, but I took it to the dealer and they took care of it (I think there's a TSB for it).

Other than that - the car is amazing. Handling wise it's decent - but you have to remember that you're also driving a 3500lb FWD car with a solid rear axle - handling isn't going to be anywhere near sports car quality. If you have the sport package it should help...but I don't think that was an option on '04s.

Sounds like some major problems.

The noise and drafts are probably related.

I have very little wind noise in my 2000 I30t (same platform), and no drafts.

Does it change, if you change the A/C to recirculation?

I've never noticed the foot rest being in a bad place, before.

The car does have a rather loud A/C fan, if you run it on high. When I am driving the car, I just set the temp a little higher, to keep the fan at a lower speed. Not really a problem I would consider terrible.

The road noise might be from improper inflation on the tires, or bad tires. This could also attribute to the poor handling.

I have the Bridgestone RE92 225/50/17, and they are really quiet. I have added a Front Strut Stabilizer bar, and this has stiffened the front-end up quite well, for cornering.

The only thing I find dreadfull with the I35's, that the I30's don't have, is WAY too much torque steer, caused by, IMO, too much power, and gearing too low. The 227 HP of the I30 is well balanced.

The G35 handles the power MUCH better.

I agree, Take it back, ASAP & drive a few other I35's, to see if they feel the same, to you. I know each person has different levels of tolerance.

I was talking to a friend who drove an 04 Maxima for a week. It was his uncles. He said he couldn't stand the suspension and the road noise was horrid. The biggest complaint about the suspension he had was that in his oppinion there was so much sway it felt like an SUV. Those IMO are big complaints. He did praise the large interior and gave a little nod to the 3.5. I guess he didn't praise the motor as much as other people as he typically drives a 400+hp stingray Vette.I agree with the suggestion to trade for a G35.

I really liked the new Maxima I drove. What I didnt like was the ridiculous torque steer. Nice interior, sharp looking body, LOTS of power, comfy seats, nice sound. The leather felt a little cheap.

From a driver's standpoint, I preferred the 90 Maxima I drove. But to each their own.
