I was looking into upgrading to a 04 infiniti i35. I looked into the history reports and what not, It showed up as a buyback/lemon car in california. Any one know what kind of problem it most likely is and has infiniti fixed it properly. Or if anyone has run into the same problem and info would help.

lemon/buybuck is when a dealer can't fix a problem within 3 attempts or choses to just give the person a different car. Who knows if they chose to fix the problem, you'd have to find that out. But if they didn't and are trying to sell it again go somewhere else because that's beyond shady.

as for other info about the 04's in general... i haven't the slightest clue. good luck

Are you referring to ALL 2004 I35s or a particular one?

If you're referring to a particular one that has a questionable history, I'd avoid it. It's not worth the potential waste of time and money chasing down a problem that the dealer has already failed to fix. Best to wait until you find one with a known good history.

I bet the price of the car is one you can't resist... Personally, if you do not have cash to spend on potential repairs, walk away from the deal. That's right up there with buying a car with a salvage title, in my books. You could take a look into TSB's for 04 I35's and see if you see a trend, but the lemon is limited to individual cars.

I would consider it if it were a decent gen, but I don't like the I35s. Something about them makes me think they're going to fall apart faster than the I30s. There were too many changes happening with the I during that time and since the I35 was only manufactured for 2(?) years, finding parts could be difficult.

Just my $.02.

My understanding of the I35 is limited, but weren't they the same as the 00-01 I30, just running the newer 3.5L? That said, I would be comfortable with at least the "mechanical" aspects of the car, but the powertrain of course is suspect.--Mike

Yes, that's right.
