I've read the forums and would like to confirm known issues with the 2004 G35x model year.

1. oil consumption problems can occur with this particular engine-not much can be done if this occurs, short of an engine rebuild?
2. the head unit can fail impacting AC function-does this simply require a new head unit and the AC will function as it should?
3. brakes!! Will a good set of rotors and pads fix this?
4. Not known to be a problem, but, what about the AWD system. Any real problems here? Didn't see much posted.

Oil consumption isn't usually an issue with the G35s with automatic trannies, which all X cars have.

The head unit can fail which will render the AC inoperable. You can get the OEM head unit fixed if it fails or replace it with a double din head unit and AC controller.

Brakes aren't usually a problem unless you're referring to pads that wear quickly, as they were designed to do. Aftermarket rotors and pads can last longer than OEM.

The AWD system is pretty stout.

Welcome to NICO.

IMO the oil consumption debate is way over-played. Back in the day, it was considered NORMAL for most German cars to consume 1 quart of oil every 3k miles. My Q45 with 230k miles consumes about that much oil despite having in-spec compression both cold and hot My point is, every couple times you fill up with gas just check the oil level and keep a spare quart in the car with you if you need to top off... Way cheaper and easier than worrying about an engine overhaul. No real long term damage will occur.

The G35 is a fantastic and overall reliable car. People's definition of reliable tends to vary, and overall this car should be a lot cheaper than any German car, and will have fewer problems than most American cars. Parts can be a little more expensive than American cars, but tend to be a lot better made and fail less often.
