My wife has a 2003 G35 that has had to have 6 brake jobs since owning. It was under warranty until recently and after the second coming out of my pocket I'm looking for a resolution. The mechanics at the dealer said they undersized the brakes for this model and that there is nothing they can do to help me. It sounds like a factory defect to me. Before I play the angry owner card (which is long over due), has anyone had this and gotten resolution?

This is a big problem. You could buy the Rotors and calipers from the 05-06 sedan and mount them to the car! They work as I think RED_DET did it on his 04!

You could also switch to Ceramic Pads. They last 2x-3x as long as the material is harder. They also show almost no break dust!

The angry owner card is not going to get you very far with this if you have run out of warranty. The brakes were being replaced under a 3/36 provisional warranty that is no longer in effect.

I bought some cross drilled discs and pads on ebay for around 175 I think? They work exceptionally well Haven't had any experience with the 05-06, but it would be a great alternative for longevity.

I know but it really burns me that they know it's a design problem, have the sac to tell you that it is a known problem and still do nothing about it. Out of warranty and out of luck.

Unfortunately, they got rid of the bugs after 04. Like Steve said, they extended a 3yr/36k mile warranty on the poor brakes because of the issue. I would consider 1 of 2 things.

1) Try out some more durable rotors and pads. My suggestion would be Powerslot Cryo Rotors and Hawk HPS pads. The combo will set you back close to what the factory brakes would, but will easily last 2-3 times longer.

2) Go through the messy, but rewarding process of swapping out the rotors, pads, and calipers from an 05-06 G35. They made them HUGE and that helped a lot from my understanding.

You're a little far North, otherwise I'd offer to help you.

SBD is right the company stepped up and provided free brakes to all g owners for three years adding to the preexisting 1/12 warranty that usually applies to new car brakes.

At this point this is now common knowledge as these cars are ~5 years old and no longer a new car. I replace a lot of them I know that they wear quickly but work flawlessly for normal driving, there is no safety issue just a small annoying side effect of owning a 1st series G.

You would have good luck with replacing the pads with something else if that is the route you are going to go. I highly recommend keeping the OE shims if they still fit. They are specially designed to eliminate noise and work well with most aftermarket pads.

First, stop buying brake parts from infiniti. They are too expensive and as you have experienced don't last long. Like most have stated, after-market rotors and pads will do the trick. I upgraded my brakes from an 05 coupe and run Project MU pads. A lot less dusting, same or better braking than oem and haven't replaced the pads yet after 12k miles and trips on the tail of the dragon.
