My battery is dead, I will be storing the Z for 5 months beginning next week. My question is...will the computer become damaged without a battery for this period of time ? Was planning on replacing it in 5 months instead of leaving a new battery idle for that period.

If it's me I'd just get a new battery and a trickle charger and put my mind at ease. I can't imagine not having a battery would hurt anything, but just as soon as I say something like bad things will happen. It's the way my month has been going. :(

Here's a great page about storing a car from Edmunds...How To Prep Your Car for Long-Term Storage.
Storing a car for an extended period of time is the only time I can imagine getting a nitrogen fill on tires as it will lessen the pressure drop over time, but it's not critical, here's a Consumer Reports article about it.

Thanks Badger...My local Nissan service department couldn't answer the question, they said to come in and have a tech research it at shop rates. A good friend was an auto tech instructor for a state university, he said that computers of that era varied by manufacture and memory could die over that period of time. Didn't have an answer. So I bought a new battery. I have stored many cars (5 at a time during my collecting days) but all were non-computer type, so this is new to me.

i store my z each year for the winter months with no battery in it whatsoever, i have had no issues. Be sure the battery has a charge when u put it back in the car so it starts up without a boost :)

I'm inclined to agree with BusyBadger and buy yourself a new battery along with a trickle charger just for peace of mind. Come Spring you're guaranteed to turn the key and the motor fire up straight away.
