I just joined this site and am at the end of refurbishing my 2004 Quest - I know, I know..."why?"...because I've always liked them, they're different, and it's easier to keep one looking like new in the south (Georgia).

I'll start putting on posts about various fixes I have found and common issues, including:

- power sunroof leaks (easy fix to Nissan going cheap - takes a little work)
- roof glass leaks (EASY fix)
- rear leaks (not too bad)
- suspension (easy fix - replace everything)
- brakes (easy fix - lose the standard OEM (or generic) rotors, pads, and calipers ...and use drilled/slotted PowerStops...no, I'm not kidding)
- engine (timing chain - OK, this one will cost you a bit to fix Nissan's screw-up)
- the junk CD player (easy fix to Nissan's screw up)
- the poorly designed gauge ribbon cable assembly problem (VERY easy fix to another design screw-up)

I'll be completely done in about two weeks - more to follow. I think I've seen about anything you can run into.

Hey 04, have you already repaired your gauge ribbon cable?

I have not had to fix mine - not sure if the PO took care of it. When you watch the videos on Youtube, it's not a hard fix at all - very doable even for the novice. As an Electrical Engineer, I was very surprised the way they designed the bend (curve) and attachment point of that ribbon cable. They were almost asking for problems by doing it that way (with the sharp curve) in a vehicle that could be in anything from -20 to 110 degree temperatures. Oh well, what do I know..

Cool. Well, if you want an upgraded unit, we have a vendor who is looking for someone to replace theirs (and write up a quick DIY on it).

Let me know!
