I may have exceeded the power of my code scanner on this one. My fathers 2003 Xterra w/ VG33E is throwing codes except I am unable to read them for some reason. I plug in and find 'No Diagnostic Codes Found' even though the MIL is clearly on. Any ideas besides going to the dealer?

Same truck: Driver side exhaust manifold, how should I go about removing and replacing the Oxygen Sensor? Besides an O2 socket what else should I be armed with to get this puppy out?

Auto Zone and possibly other parts stores will read codes for free for you.

As it turns out my scanner couldn't seem to read a P0420, Catalyst Low Efficiency, code. I have no idea why it couldn't read that code, it has me bothered. Advanced Auto was able to scan the code though. I took the truck to the dealer to confirm the code. They made me pretty happy when they said that the cat was covered by Nissans 8 year/80000 miles emission warranty. So all's well that ends well.

your luck i just swapped mine out and they were $600.00 a pop and there are 2 up front and 2 in the rear but the rear ones are $300. I don't know about NY but here in San Antonio we have mobile mechanics "I am one of them".

Next time you can call one out that has a good scanner like a matco or snap on there are more and more mobile mechanics now due to the lack of pay at shops and the opportunity to earn more money on your own as well as being your own boss.
