I'm trying to replace my front rotors and pads. I can't get the stud assembly off of the hub. I have removed the cap, retaining clip and bolts, but the assembly won't come off to allow access to the rotor. The car is up on jacks blocking my driveway...help ASAP please!! Thanks!

Well I have taken all that off on mine and I am not sure of the terms, but I will go thru how I did it real quickly from memory.

So you have the clip off, and then large bolts that hold the rotor are needed to be broken free (16mm?).

next the little 13mm nuts off the studs. Then you can use a large screwdriver (flathead) and your wheel lug nut tool on the opposite side to pry it free. Don't mangel it. Try to get the tiny edge that sticks out. YOu can always heat slightly and use liquid wrench too. Tap it lightly without damage, etc. But you are going to pry it to you with the flathead end.

You have to get the edge of the cap that is splined (to hub body), off by breaking the bond that can happen from rust.

I dont remember but i didn't think you need to take that off for brakes. But I have done it a few times. Make sure the clip is off and the CV threads no hanging up on on the cap with splines (part we are talking about).

You can check hub for play and grease the splines when you put that cap back on.

Keep grease off brakes and use anti squeak.

You will get it. It is not a hard job. Tighten the rotor bolts good and even. Take it easy on those little 13mm bolts. Do not grease them or hammer them tight. Good and snug only.

yes I looked at mine and it does have to come off. I have done it much but shoot I seem to be losing it on brain power.

The pry technique is hard because it takes getting the lip that barely sticks out to catch the flatheads. You don't want to wedge into the space between because you can mess up the flats. If you did this, RTV a tiny bit later.

Also when putting clip back on, tighten the little cap nuts first to get more room for clip. Get clip close to edge, and push over the channel and listen for a click. The clip should be even all the way around. A tap on CV axle with rubber mallet will confirm.

New brakes are great. Make sure to get big bolts tight, and bleed them. Don't need anything special, just 2 people.

Use new brake fluid (dot 3) and don't expose fluid to air for more than a few minutes. It takes on moisture evidently.
