I have a 2003 q45 that i just bought with 45,000 miles 1 owner(love the car). I have a few questions. Is there a way to have the doors lock automatic when the car is put into drive?
Next, is the cruise control pod and stereo control pod that is mounted on the steering wheel supposed to be backlit at night? I thought when I first got the car those controls were illuminated like the power window control on the doors.

Thank you

Yes, the center console's button illuminate when the headlights are turned on. Check your owners manual regarding the auto locking doors.

Thanks for the info. I know the center button(joystick control)on the console lights up. I want to know if the stereo controls mounted on the left side of the steering wheel and the cruise control mounted on the right side of the steering wheel are backlit(light up when the lights come on). Also I have read the owners manual front to back and there is no mention of the doors locking when the car is shifted into drive or the ability to set it to do this. I thought when the I bought the car it was set up this way, just wanted to check.

My bad...no the stereo controls on the steering wheel do not illuminate.

BTW make sure you keep an eye out on the following on your newly acquired Q45: :ohno:

1. Oil consumption. It's wise to check your car's oil level every 1000-1500 miles to determine if the engine consumes oil and how much/fast.
2. Driver's seat rocking/movement. (a common issue with late model Nissan/Infiniti vehicles).
3. HID ballasts. The ballasts on Nissan/Infiniti car's have a tendency to fail prematurely.
4. Wheel bearing failure. You probably already exceeded the powertrain warranty period.
5. Dashboard cracks/splitting. Check your dash for cracks and splits. Keep a good leather/vinyl conditioner on your dash to prevent it from cracking. The dash composite is thin on the Q45 and tends to crack/split during very cold and hot weather. Infiniti will not provide any warranty coverage.
6. Smart key ignition failure. You make experience intermittent electrical failures when you attempt to start your car.
7. Center console display/screen failure. You may notice your center display screen glitch off and on at times. This could very well mean that failure is around the corner.
8. Center dash joystick failure. You may need to remove and clean the underside of the joy stick or have the panel replaced/repaired.
9. Dashboard creaking/rattling. You may experience noises from the dashboard area. This is an issue that is common with late model Infiniti/Nissan vehicles. No cost-effective fix is available.
10. Rear sunshade failure. (if so equipped)
11. In-dash CD changer failure. (the manufacture once provided free replacement/fix). Just use one CD at a time to prevent the in-dash CD changer from getting jammed.
12. Power window motor failure. You may first notice your windows going up/down very slow before the motor fails.
13. Laser guided cruise control failure. The guidance device (laser) may fail.

Thank you for the reply and the heads up. I have check the oil consumption , no problems there.
Funny thing the dashboard had a rattle(speaker in front of the driver in the dash was loose) While I had the dash out replaced the 3 speakers in the dash.
Removed the 6 cd changer in the dash and replaced it with a pioneer single din Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS head unit. I now have sat radio and hands free calling and blue tooth. It was pretty straight forward install and a great improvement to bring modern technology into the car. I will keep an eye on the other things you mentioned. Thanks again for your time to answer my questions.
