So I am in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, I have a 2003 pathfinder chilkoot. I was about to replace some front end stuff including struts when I noticed some rust holes in the strut support area. Upon some research I have come across the recall.

I contacted my local dealer and was told to bring it in in a few weeks. They told me if there is just flaking rust they will repair it but if there is holes they will condemn the vehicle. I asked about the plates I have seen as a repair and they told me they no longer repair any of them if there is any sign of rust holes.

I know there is many posts about this issue but have not seen anything about them no longer repairing them at all anymore.

Has anyone had any recent experience with this recall and what has been your outcome?

Thanks

Rust sucks. What's the buyback for a condemned vehicle?

If someone has experience with the situation you describe, and they see this thread, they probably won't ignore your question. They'll leave a reply and try to help.

So... I did search on Google and found nothing about Canada and condemning vehicles. Like do they just take them away, make you pay for them, buy them back, what?! Nothing. That seems like robbery to me. I'd be mad at a dealership just for threatening my property and livelihood.

Now, back on topic, if a condemned car means you lose the car and all the money related to it, then look into having a non-dealership mechanic perform the repairs with plates at your own expense.

Im in the process of doing ball joints for my friends 01 qx4. His passenger side wheel well is pretty soft in quite a large area that I'm willing to bet they will deem his car unrepairable. My 01 Pathfinder is also showing signs of rust in the wheel wells but nowhere near as bad. I'm located just outside of Vancouver so our weather is pretty mild compared to the rest of canada during winter.

Don't have Canada TSB's, but U.S. TSB's can be found for free here:

http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html

Enter your cars info, and go to steering / suspension section.

The TSB was updated for "salt states", which are northern states with cold winters that use road salt, in January 2015 (NTB11-064i). The new TSB requires inspection of both driver and passenger sides. If there is any rust perforation (holes) in "area 1" (down near the frame rail) on either side, the car is deemed non-repairable. The dealer keeps the vehicle and gives you a rental car. The Nissan buyback process begins.

This probably makes sense as these trucks have depreciated in value since the original TSB came out, and the new repair process is more extensive, and expensive The dealer now orders a repair kit that requires installation of some new sheetmetal. You can read the TSB for the details.

I expect Canada's TSB is very similar to this.

They pretty much pay retail value for the vehicle if I remember correctly.
