We just bought this vehicle and I cannot find what the chilkoot means. Is it a package?
I am also wondering with the dial for 2wd/4wd in auto, when does the 4wd kick in? Is it just for acceleration or does it also activate in turns when skidding?
Any other info would be appreciated.
Regards,
Ken

Chilkoot is just a trim level, like the SE and LE trims. Mine didn't have a sunroof, power seats, or automatic climate control, for example.

The auto 4x4 only kicks in when the wheel's speed sensors detect you're in a skid; otherwise it'll stay in 2WD. In my experiences, it can take a noticeable amount of time (say, 500ms or so). I'm in Canada, so during the winter months I leave it in auto unless there's a situation where I'm very likely to lose traction. Iced-over traffic circles are common in my area, for example, so when I approach those I'll turn on 4Hi.

Thank you for your reply Densetsu.
We just bought this at an auction, great deal, to replace my gf honda crv with 275k km on it, but she hates the Nissan.
I took it for a spin and now I am selling my other vehicle. Love it! Very solid, no rattles.
We are in Canada also, just clearing the snow, and it feels like a great winter car.
Though it looks like I now have to buy fuel in bulk I still like it very much!
