I'm fairly new to Nissans, but have a lot of time in cars in general. The cause? Simple use, probably at high speed. Looks like the fat green wire in back was the cause of things, it likely carries a lot of current at times, generating a lot of heat. Probably too much or long of times. And when one thing electrical fails, often more than one do. I'm not sure of a true preventive measure, but for sure don't try to reuse those fried connectors. Replace the damaged one, perhaps even by soldering the wire to the connector, it's hard to duplicate factory crimps and that connector still failed, but reuse the undamaged ones in a new plastic housing. It might have even been a less than perfect connection/connector from the factory.
