Hello. I was recently informed by my dealership that the vibrating i was feeling in the Drivers side front tire was the wheel hub failure and the tie rod beginning to come out.

Does anyone have any experience replacing these? The dealer quoted me about 7 to 800 bucks, but i found the parts for a little over 200.

I'm fairly mechanically inclined, i'm just concerned about needing to buy a special tool in order to do this project. Does anybody know if any unique tools are necessary?

Any/All Help is much appreciated

I haven't torn into the hub on one of these, but the tierod should be straight forward enough, though you will be best off getting an alignment when you're done replacing it.

I've never been a fan of using a pickle fork to separate the TRE from the knuckle. You should be able to remove the cotter pin and nut, and hit the knuckle with a BFH to pop the tierod out.

I am a little suspect of the cause, however. It's probably one item or the other causing your vibration, not both.

Yeah, i don't know if both are the cause, but the dealer said both were bad.

Though they have a history of adding stuff in.

Problem is my spare car is on the fritz as well, and if i take this apart, i need to be able to get it back together...though if there's a tool needed, i hypothetically wouldn't be able to take it apart.

I posted a couple of places, i'll probably give it til this weekend and if no one says anything about a special tool i'll just take it apart.

I looked at a couple of pic's of the part online, and it looks pretty straight forward, maybe i'll take the wheel off tonight and see what it looks like.

No special tools ness. Hub bolts on with 3 or 4 bolts, r & r hub and go.
