My murano, while in stop and go traffic has a drop in RPM's at idle to about 4 to 5,000 and has an extreme hesitation when trying to take off. I push the gas pedal 1/4 to 1/2 way down and it lurches forward after a few second hesitation. Any guidance for this problem would be greatly appreciated. The vehicle has 109,000 miles and seems to run great minus this problem. Thanks.Derek

My '03 murano has done this twice in the past couple of months and after I turn it off for about 20 minutes it is fine. I took it to my mechanic and they couldn't get it to do it, and there aren't any lights on so they told me to wait until it's doing it more consistently so they can pull a code. Does anyone have any suggestions one what to do about this? My gas tank was about half full last time it happened but it has been fine since.

Please help It would be so appreciated!!!

This is a very common problem for 2003 Nissan Murano. Here is the more active discussion thread. You all need to join in and complaint to NHTSA.

My 03 Murano has a recurring problem with hesitation. (I press the gas peddle down further and further, and for a few seconds, nothing happens, Then it jumps forward.) It only seems to hesitate after the car has been running for at least 30 mins, and on only seems to happen in warm weather. Anyone know what the cause is, or how I might fix it?

Just read the previous post, he provided the link to the in-depth discussion on this topic where people have discussed this at long length and it seems there is no easy option to fix this problem, and he indicated that this is a common problem for the 03 Murano, just check it out as he suggests.

Hesitation... I have a 2003 Murano. Mileage 98,000. After driving on the highway for at least an hour, the car hesitates after a stop. I hit stop and go traffic when traveling through a city. Every time I started, the car hesitated for 4 to 5 seconds while the engine revved. Then it jumped forward. Then, driving at highway speeds again, I could feel slippage in speed. my check engine light was on.
Brought it to the Nissan dealer from whom it was purchased. They WERE able to reproduce problem. Error code: Bank One and Bank two intake control solenoids. They checked this condition, and found them to be working properly. They are denying that it is the CVT, and instead saying that it looks like the engine. After reading this forum and Edmunds, I now believe that it is the CVT. Thanks everybody, I will post again with more info.

I have an '05, twice I had an issue with extreme hesitation after stopping that took me a few days to figure out.

Both times it was related to the altenator voltage being low. It seems if your voltage is low the CVT unloads , ( no torque ).

The 1st issue was a bad belt idler pulley/bad belt. This belt lives behind the passenger tire. The outer belt. Pain in the butt to get to, (need an offset 14MM).

The 2nd issue was fixed with an alternator replacement. Research on-line showed this symptom with 05s, but the dealer said my car serial # was 25K cars too late for the recall.
