Post

I have recently purchased a 2003 Altima 2.5 from a friend of mine, ive had the car since may and its been nothing but problems. As of late it has been dieing at random times, usually at speeds over 40. the car has almost 46000 miles on it, but it only has 6000 miles on the engine. the engine was replaced by a nissan dealership under one of the recalls. i'm pulling the p0335 and the p0725, i was told the engine speed signal code came up because it was triggered by the crankshaft position sensor. now about a month ago i changed the crank sensor and the car drove alright. after i changed the sensor after the first month it died again while i was driving and i pulled the p0335 again. Now i end up in bad situation where my car dies and i end up whereever i can manuver the car. I'm planning on doing a trade in at a dealership but i need to fix this problem first. any ideas or and help at all would be appriciated, if anyone could let me know how to make this problem stop id be happy with keeping the car considering the deal that i got on it.

also i dont know if this relates to the cars other problems but ever time i try to start my car it needs to be done twice, as the first time it turns over and dies immediately and the second time it stays on just fine. i have also read some posts where people have the same problem with there cars dieing while driving but they usually die while stopping or turning at low speeds, mine specifically will die at mid level speeds or higher speeds.

if the problem really is a bad crank sensor again i have no problem changing it...i just dont think its likey. i'm pretty good with cars mostly old school muscle but ive learned my way around my altima so i should be able to do any of your suggestions myself.

I just need to fix these problem schools starting again and i work everyday i need to be able to get around.

Have you tried replacing the cam position sensor. This one is much easier to replace than the crank sensor and I have seen them go bad just as often. Also, was the crank sensor the new style (silver not solid black). You usually have to plug them into the connector before installing into the motor. The new motor should have come with a countermeasure crank sensor in it anyway.

Go to the closest Nissan dealer, buy the engine sensors kit, includes cam and crank sensor, its only like 70 bucks at my shop. replace crank and cam sensor, trade in your car

the cranksensor i replaced was the silver one and i did plug it in after i installed it...do i need to get a new one or can i still use it, also why does the cam shaft sensor need to be changed, i havent ever pulled a code for that?

don't know how to explain it. there was a recall out for these, not neccesarily your vehicle, but nissan sells a cam/crank sensor set that is cheaper for both than each individually. I always do them as a matched set in these 2.5's. always get the crank code and engine speed signal code, haven't gotten a cam code. but they work off each other, so i like doing them as a set and they never come back for the same problem
