Hello i own a 2003 Nissan altima and the crankshaft position sensor has gone bad on me. I bought a new sensor from my local autozone. I am not going to Nissan to get it replaced, i am going to have this hispanic dude replace it for 30 bucks at his shop oppose to 100 at Nissan. Can someone show me where the Crankshaft position sensor is located in a 2003 nissan altima...perhaps by screenshot or something.

-thanks

There is a recall out for those. Go to your dealership and tell them to replace it for free.

The recall may or may not apply to this vehicle.

To answer the question, I have been told by technicians that the sensor is located on the engine block, near where the transmission bolts up, on the firewall side. The sensor has to be replaced from the top, and if you don't know what you are doing, it can be extremely difficult to put one in. I highly suggest you take it to someone who is knowledgeable in this installation.

BTW, the part has been redesigned by Nissan to cut down on failures, and the aftermarket parts are of the old design.

Hi, I replaced the crankshaft and camshaft sensors on my 2003 Nissan Altima SL as a kit from Nissan. Cleared all codes (only code was P0335 four times) and car was still hard to start then flagged same code again along with P0725, Engine Speed signal. Not looking forward to pulling the connector on that crank sensor again. My hand is still raw. Any suggestions? This work should have been covered by the recall but my VIN was off by one digit. I'm sure this has been discussed... But now I just need to get my car back in service.

Thanks for any advice!Bud

Very frustrating!! I just had recall work done on my car cause my check engine soon light came on and car was completely shutting down when I was stopped or at low rate of speed but, noticed it shifting hard into 1st gear. Picked up my car and light was still on. They told me the recall work didn't cover what was wrong with my vehicle. Took it to Auto Zone they said my crank shaft position sensor came up 3 times and some speed vehicle sensor. Called Nissan and wow my car was not listed with the recall but, is under investigation for a recall for the problem. Ordered the sensor from Auto Zone for 45.00 took to my great mechanic and he installed for 40.00.. This after I called Nissan dealer and was given a quote of $275.00 plus tax!!! Are you kidding me? NOW Nissan claims that you have to order the NEW sensor through them but, they have my claim number and if the problem occurs again then they will replace it for me.. So win win for me, if this one goes out again from oil spilling on it Nissan will replace!! Call and Complain!

Number to call and 1) See if your 2003 Nissan Altima is on the recall 2) See if your 2003 Nissan Altima is on the investigation list, they are obviously having a problem that didn't get fixed from the 2002 wich all of them are on the recall.. Note!! When my mechanic took out the old crank shaft position sensor it was the old one not the new one Nissan said should of been in my vehicle.. They are going by vin # for the recall which is just stupid!!800-647-7261Oh yeah make sure you specifically tell them it is the crank shaft position sensor!
