Hi, I love the car but the problems I am having I am just trying my best to deal with. Bascially I really haven't had the money to properly maintain the car. I know this. I noticed over the summer one day I would go to th car and put the key in and there was no electrical system at all, it wouldn't start. As soon as I would tap the battery positive just touching it, the alarm would go off and the car electrical system would start up. So this went on for a few months like every couple of weeks I would do this, then it started happening more frequent. Then last week while I was stoped at a light in drive, the car just stoped running the whole electrical system conked out even while in drive. I did the same thing tapping the battery it worked (yes I know I should have taken it in but I have no money right now to do that) So today I go start it up and now when I go to kick it over the battery just conks out. I do the battery tap trick, the electrical system starts up but when I go to turn the car over it conks out and I cant start it. I mean atleast it is in the drive way but any idea what the problem is? I am hoping it is a battery and even now my financial situation that is a lot for me to lay out. I heard there were problems with the alternator but it doesn't sound like the alternator problem that people were having. PLEASE HELP Im really not in a good place right now and Im trying my best to stay strong until i get through this...

Try checking the electrical cable (i believe it's 4 gauge) from the alternator to the (+) battery terminal & the ground cable from (-) battery terminal to the car chasis. If any of those connections are loose (movable using your hands) then that would cause a situation similar to your experience.

The battery's role in the scheme of things is to start the vehicle. Once started the alternator maintains the power and recharges the battery. If the car stalls when the car is running and you've determined it's definitely an electrical problem then there is a problem with the alternator. It may be faulty or it's connections may be faulty, either way it isn't delivering power.

I remember an incident with my Toyota where when the alternator was on its last legs, it would work sometimes and not other times. This led to the battery to be charged when it worked and a completly discharged (from supporting entire car without alternator) until it finally killed the battery. When the battery discharged below 12 volts, my Camry stalled. Resting the car for about an hour usually allowed me to start the car again but if the alternator didn't kick in then the car stalls again shortly. If the alternator was having a good day then the car would remain running and my battery would be recharged for ready for another bizarro day.

I should also mention that there was a recall campaign on murano's and alternators. To see if you are affected call your dealership and ask them whether you are affected. They will be able to determine it using your VIN.

hope that helps. good luck with things
