1 year ago, before my extended warrany of 160000 km was due the Murano started burning oil , no smoke, a fast ticking noise at the initial start up of the vehicle, which soon goes away. The dealer said that I would be responsible for the tear down of the engine at the time if the problem was discovered to be a non-warrranty issue with the inspection of the engine and the related parts within ( is that normal procedure to advise you that you may have to pay for this?) Oil cunsumption test was performed and was deemed that it was burning oil......DAH!!!

I choose not to get it fixed for fear of a large bill to tear down and rebuild or replace the engine. Now, over a year later and still putting in oil , I am not pleased with the vehicle and the oil cunsumption ( I carry a 4 liter bottle of oil in the back always). I am now 25 k over my warranty. So that is long gone , but I feel that the "PEACE OF MIND "....Warranty ...did not give me peace of mind ...

Any info as to what the oil burning can be from????

Burning oil is VERY rare on Nissan VQ engines, especially (relatively) low mileage ones like you have. That is the same basic engine used on a number of Nissan models.

Have you had this car since it was new? (in other words, do you know the complete oil change history to date?)

Hi, I purchased this murano used, with 93 k on it already, that was approximately 4 1/2 years ago. I have always kept the scheduled maintenance. previous to that I am unsure. I did buy through a dealer.
