I have an 03 murano and I didn't see a thread on this so forgive me ahead of time if i'm double posting. My 03 Murano has a CA Emissions Catalytic Converter but we live in texas. From everything i've read thus far, you only need to get a CA Emissions converter if I will have my murano Registered in or i reside in CA, is that true? I think that if it truly is the Catalytic Converter that needs to be replaced that I can go with a 49 State Legal Direct Fit. I ask because in texas we do have an inspection but you can't get your car inspected with the check engine light on and a 49 state legal should prevent the check engine light from returining?

i brought this question to the attention of my local dealership that provides my oil changes etc, and they acted as though i was speakign in a foreign language

any advice is greatly appreciated

I live in CA. Last fall my 03 began giving me a check engine light. Nissan diagnosed it as a poorly shut fuel door. By the time they finally got it right, i was past the emissions warranty. It cost me $2400 to replace two cats, the center cat, and a section of pipe. The failed cat also led to a cracked exhaust manifold which was covered by my extended warranty, the cat system was not. I dumped that POS in Feb at a loss. It will be my last NIssan. I can't answer your Texas question but given the terrible repair rate on 03 trannys and other goodies, I'd get rid of that car yesterday if possible. Think abour it, when have you ever heard of CAT systems buring out at 70-80K? Yet there were three MOs in the dealer that same week I was there with the same dang problem. 03 Murano = POS in my book.
