I have a 2003 Maxima with the Bose 6-disc head unit. The unit powers up but puts out no sound. I tried another amp and got the same results. When I hit the seek button, it moves through the stations but never stops on any. I read that those symptoms mean that I need a new head unit. Do you all agree?

If so, I will probably try to keep the amp and speakers that are in the car now and just replace the head unit. Those of you that have gone this route, what stereo have you bought that you are happy with? Have any of you had good luck getting the steering wheel volume controls to work on the new unit?

I'm pretty sure that there is a separate fuse for the amp. Check and make sure that is good before changing anything out.

Check your owners manual, it should tell you.

Cokeman,

I would see if you can get your unit repaired before replacing it. If you are interested in repairs please email us.

Same thing happened with my 2k3 Maxima. The bose head unit crapped out. Unfortunately I believe this is a relatively common problem. If you go after market which I highly recommend you will need this wiring harness http://www.crutchfield.com/App...07551 if you want to keep your factory speakers and amp.

The crutchfield site will say that this harness does not fit your Maxima, but it does. I'm using it now.

Also, to use your factory steering wheel controls you will need this http://www.crutchfield.com/g_1...=3405

I have an old skool Sony CDX M9905x. It looks cool and that's about it. Any ole' stereo will work. If you plan on upgrading your system make sure to get with with sufficient RCA outputs such as: Front, Rear, and Sub outs.
