You want to avoid overtightening so you dont burn up a bearing inyour AC or PS-but you dont want the belt flopping around too looseeither. They say to use a belt deflection gauge but I just cant useone under the hood since it is so crowded. A new belt will stretchafter a little while so you can fine tune how tight it needs to be.You may just have to use good judgement and watch how the carruns for this. I think most mechanics changing belts really do thisanyway. Be sure to clean off any oil or antifreeze from the pulleysbefore installing. Bring the old one with you to check the size whenpurchasing.
