Hey all,

Had a weird limp mode happen to me this morning. After revving up relatively hard to pass a car, my m45 went into limp mode but no lights popped on the dash. I pulled over, cycled the engine and it was still in limp mode, then threw the shifter over to "manual" and after some giving it some pumps on the gas pedal and shifting manually I got it back to normal...but haven't been revving past 3500k or so.

The car is fairly new to me, and this is the first time I've dealt with this problem, but I have the service history from the dealer and apparently the previous owner dealt with this issue and they were never able to duplicate it in the service dept.

I've been searching around and seems like it could be any number of things from posts in the past. Just weird to me that I got no codes, and it seemed to sort-of right itself after some basic fiddling from the driver seat.

The car is currently at 107,800. In the search for a fix the previous owner had a fuel induction service done at 104,600; tech notes say it might be signs of a fuel pump failure from a service at 104,000 (this was the first instance of the complaint from him of limp mode on the highway); installed a new throttle chamber at 103,350; crank position sensor was replaced at 102,225. Cam and phase sensors were replaced at 94,176.

I popped under the dash and the brake pedal stoppers are intact, not totally flush but the plungers are still being engaged. Haven't had any issues with brake lights staying on, etc. I dunno I'm guessing I should see if there are any codes in there despite not popping a service light? Anyone else have any guesses?

Does your scanner read the tranny? Not all scanners do, and not all tranny DTC's will light the MIL. The other things capable of causing non-code misbehavior on Nissan products are the MAF, in-tank fuel pump, and cam and crank sensors.

Thanks. I'll stop by my friends transmission shop sometime soon and have him run a second check. Might even try to get a ride along pulling data as I do a hard pull to see if I can replicate the issue.

For anyone curious, finally ran some realtime data today, and it was my MAF. Runs great now.

One of these days Nissan may spend an extra nickel and add a MAP sensor to their engines and a software cross-check for the MAF, but I won't hold my breath. Until they do, your engine might occasionally need to hold its breath.

Good work and thanks for the update!
