Hi guys, I'm getting a new sound from the M45 :(
Here's the situation:
About 30 seconds into a cold start, I get a whine and low hum from the top, front timing cover area on the passenger side. The sound subsides after the car is about halfway into warming up.

After short periods of running the car from a cold start with both the drive belt and the power steering belt OFF of the car
I have determined that it is NOT a pulley, AC Compressor, Alternator, Water Pump, or Power Steering pump. As both belts being off has no effect on the noise, I am beginning to wonder if it is an issue with the timing chain/guide/tensioner or possibly a clogged oil jet for the timing chain?
I am finding no answers and no help so even the smallest suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch.

Being that it is a V8, this sounds similar to the M56 V8. See my video here:

Does it sound similar. Read the thread in the description for more discussion.

No not really. At first I thought it was something belt driven, but after removing both the PS belt and main drive belt, I now know it's not.

My car also whines only when temp is in teens or below on cold starts (north area) and engine rattle as well under 40 degrees any suggestions? Could be piston slap.... but goes away after a few minutes
