Can anyone tell me why my CD player does not display data in the display when a CD is playing? Is there something wrong with the CD player or am I doing or not doing something to make this happen? I dont use homemade CD's, all are factory manufactured CD's but nothing displays. I've seen pictures of other peoples displaying fine, but mine has not.

Most (not all) audio CD's follow the original Red Book standards (only the most recent CD's have the newer CD standard - whose name I forget - that has data encoded about the content).

In the Red Book audio CD standard, there is no encoding of the data for the song, so none of the CD players can show any data from the disk. Some computer-based players search web sites with the song-length info (and other proprietary methods, such as GraceNotes) to try and figure out what the CD might be.

In newer audio CD's that contain the data info, it is theoretical possible for a modern CD player to show that info. But I forget if the 2003 M45 player has this capability or not - I will have to check it sometime!!

Hello,Most, if not all, of the Sony/Columbia catalog will show up on your display. This is especially true of the newer discs (<3 years). Cheers,Mark

Here is what I did, and I highly recommend everyone else looking for this follow the same policy.

It is completely hit and miss whether your purchased CD will display CD Text. I have noticed this is especially prevalent with US albums whereas European based albums in their original European packaging typically have the CD text.

After having purchased about 20 albums and noticing only my Prodigy double-cd had CD text, I went ahead and purchased Nero's package.

Nero will not only burn a CD (you are copying your purchased cd) but it will also download and update all your album information automatically for you. You can call the album you are creating on a personal CD anything you want and you can title each track individually if you want.

Don't bother with the "buy a new album and it will have the text" theory because it is simply not true. It is really unfortunate but, c'est la vie. Use Nero to backup your cd's or create your own albums and you are all set.

Great idea indeed. All the same, try about any Sony/Columbia disc that you might own and it will show title and track info.Cheers,M.L
