Chris,

This might sound like a dumb question, but what is the trick to disconnecting the cam position sensor and/or the crankshaft position sensor? The Valve timing position sensors are relatively easy to disconnect but I just can't figure out the other two. They both have a green colored portion that looks like is should depress to release the connection but it doesn't. Can you help?

Thanks!!!

Just in case anyone else had the same problem with this that I did.

Parts stores have all 4 sensors listed as cam or crank position sensors, even the intake valve timing position sensors (bank 1 and 2). The part they have listed is SU5745 for all of them. That is for the cam sensor and the crank sensor. The other 2 that are at the front of the engine on each head should be OEM part 23731-2Y52A, or if you go to Autozone/Advance/etc part # SU5352.

Thanks to all you guys! I bought all four Duralast sensors for about $225 at Autozone, rather than approx. $540 I was quoted by an Infiniti parts rep. The folks at Autozone were only able to give me the correct parts when I asked for them by part numbers instead of by name.

The two Intake Valve Timing Control Position Sensors (Bank 1 and Bank 2) are Infiniti part number 237312Y52A, and Autozone part number SU5352. The same type of part is used in both banks. The Autozone inventory system has this part labeled "camshaft position senor." A pic of this part can be found in the Service Manual at page EC-456. A pic of where to locate these sensors can be found in the Service Manual diagram at page EM-35, numbers 9 and 12 in the diagram.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Camshaft Position Sensor are Infiniti part number 237314M506, and Autozone part number SU5745. The same type of part is used for both cam and crank applications. The Autozone inventory system also has this part labeled "camshaft position sensor." A pic of this part can be found in the Service Manual at page EC-307 (crank) and EC-315 (cam). A pic of where to locate the crank sensor can be found in the Service Manual diagram at page EC-312. A pic of where to locate the cam sensor can be found in the Service Manual diagram at page EM-35, number 25 in the diagram.

TIP: Removing the wiring harness from the cam sensor was a bit tricky because it has two pieces. The green piece has to slide forward in order to release the outer black housing. Also, I was advised by an Infiniti mechanic to replace all four sensors at the same time.

Recall Number: 03V455000
Recall Date: 11/17/2003

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Problem Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

What Owners Should Do: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
