Could be a variety of things, unfortunately. So, please consider what I say as a SWAG.
One thing the 2003 and 2004 engines are prone to is carbon deposits. This is particularly a problem if you start the engine, let it run for too short a time (doesn't really warm up) and then turn it off. This causes problems and should be avoided. If you start the car cold (or even just after it has sat a short while
after a drive), let it warm up for a couple of minutes before shutting it down.
What you can try is:
1. A few warmed up WOT's to blow out the deposits - be careful though.
2. A BG-44K session (or two - but no more in a 3k mile interval) to see if this can help.
If not, then you will need to do some looking ... I have had a sensor go out on the engine (forget which one it was) too, but that is an expensive labor proposition, so try simple stuff first.
