my M45 stalls out of the blue than after i start it back up, when i give it gas it idles intermittently. almost as if i were banging on the gas over and over. dealer said it can be a camshaft sensor or anything between the fuel pump and engine... anyone have any ideas what i may be looking at or has had the same issue??

Could be a variety of things, unfortunately. So, please consider what I say as a SWAG.

One thing the 2003 and 2004 engines are prone to is carbon deposits. This is particularly a problem if you start the engine, let it run for too short a time (doesn't really warm up) and then turn it off. This causes problems and should be avoided. If you start the car cold (or even just after it has sat a short while after a drive), let it warm up for a couple of minutes before shutting it down.

What you can try is:

1. A few warmed up WOT's to blow out the deposits - be careful though.
2. A BG-44K session (or two - but no more in a 3k mile interval) to see if this can help.

If not, then you will need to do some looking ... I have had a sensor go out on the engine (forget which one it was) too, but that is an expensive labor proposition, so try simple stuff first.

szh speaks the truth. I also had this stalling issue and it was the sensor he mentions. I waited and it resulted in a new exhaust from the manifold to the muffler.

Found that old thread of mine. Was two Camshaft Position Sensors that went out: post6412332.html

It was not the cause of stalling or hesitation behavior though - for me, those have typically been quickly resolved with a BG-44K session ...

well i finally got a check engine light after a few more stalls and my "vehicle dynamics control" shutting off a couple times. i took it to a friend's shop and he got the codes. the infamous Camshaft Position Sensors!! he ordered them from Infiniti and am waiting for the call to install and see what the damage will be. i was going to get some aftermarket ones from Oreilly's (about $30 each) but decided to get the dealer ones. what's funny is i found out there is a recall for those camshaft sensors along with a few more on these vehicles and for this exact "stalling issue" but my VIN did not come up for the recall.... ain't that some sh**!
i will also try that BG-44K cleaner and swap out the spark plugs after to see if i can get a little better performance.
i flippin love this car!! the look, the handling, the power (blew away an audi A4t and a suburu legacy a couple weeks ago). Awesome car!!

I am having this exact same issue. VCD light will come on, it'll sporadically stall while idling. It's like it has a mind of its own. I've been dealing with this for almost 2 years now. Have taken it to several mechanics. Infiniti initially told me I needed a new ECM. They quoted me $2500. Found a place that rebuilds them and had it installed. It just stalled again. I've had mechanics change (or claimed they changed) the cam sensors, do something to the throttle body, change out wires, and a few other things, all to no avail. I loooove this car. I don't want to get rid of it but I can keep throwing away money either. Any suggestions?

Also, didn't know there was recall.

maybe you have a bad traction control vcd system, they are finicky in Japanese cars. I would disable the yaw sensor and see if that helps. This power cut to the yaw sensor under the arm rest is where I would start.

Any time you do anything ECM related you need to do an idle air volume relearn and a throttle closed position relearn. Without them, the car can do some finicky stuff.

i swapped the cam sensor and crank sensor and have had no more issues. call the infiniti corp 1-800 number and give them your VIN to see if your car falls under the recall. they also have a recall for faulty gas tank gauge.

good luck!
