2003 M45 seems a bit slow off the line...

I just took mine in for an oil change and was given an '07 G35 loaner overnight. The G35 seems surprising much faster from a dead stop compared to my M45 - at least in the 0-30 range or so. The G also chirped it's tires on takeoff with ease, while my M refuses to do so even with VDC/TC disengaged. Even with the added weight, it seems like the M45 should be quicker directly off the line - any theories as to the reason for this?

Well I drove a G35 when I had mine in the shop a bit ago and I don't think it was faster off the line. I think what you might be feeling is the stiffer suspension of the G35, and maybe it "feels" faster but in actuallity it is not. The G35 is no goat though, they have some get up and go, as most V6's the G has the balls down at the lower speeds, and loses it up high. They are much similar in speeds to our M from 0-60 then they are from 60-100. Hope that helps out a bit............... Boon

You should be able to do a pretty decent burn out in your 03M. I just did one yesterday. With the VDC off, and the transmission in manual mode (1), you should be able to lay down 40 - 50 ft of expensive rubber.

Were you using the brakes to wind up the engine a bit, or just flooring it from a standstill? Not that I want to destroy my tires, I'm just curious

In my M with the traction off If i floor it it will chirp and slip a bit then catch and take off like a rocket, if going hard enough it will chirp second. I think the slip light comes on even with the traction off.

I think what you are feeling is the difference in power delivery. In the G's its quite violent and jerky, giving the feeling of speed. In the m the power is delivered much smoother, in my opinion.

You should BG44K your car to see if you get better results. How many miles? In no way is that G35 faster, especially off the line!! I proved that a while back and the guy had an exhaust of some sort on his G.

I remember chirping thru 1st and 2nd with the stock 18in Bridgestone’s of the red lights and stop signs and even around ramp turns on the highways. I wasn’t use to the power and I had just come out of an Ack Legend, so the power was obvious and took some getting use to, but since I put the 20’s on it I’ve been drive it like an elderly women on a Sunday morning.

Hmm still no chirping for me, I tried it on the way home today. The car has 45k - I'll try the BG44K just for something to do. Could it be anything else?

It does work a little better if you stall it up just a little bit before you take off, but It should do it either way. I just have the stock 18's with not so good Eagle RSA's, it might just be my tires.

I can't be the only one that is able to break the tires loose in their 03M???

Yes, this was on dry blacktop.

Mine will break the tires loose with ease. With VDC on it will chirp/spin a bit then stop, but with VDC off it is a whole new ball game. I can spin from a dead stop by just flooring it no need to wind up the engine at all. I wish you could do a power brake in these cars but something is tied to the brake system and the throttle cuts when you hold the brake.

I also found out the other night that if you do too many burnouts that the "slip" light will stay on and you will not be able to turn VDC back on. I had to turn the car off and restart it to reboot the system.

Happy tire spinning.

sure fire way to get the tires to squeal is to put it in 2nd gear and engine brake from the line. Mine will chirp even in automatic mode with VDC on and will really chirp with VDC off. I have Yokohama AVID A/S with ~ 4K miles.

The 07 and 08 G sedan is faster than the 03 04 M both 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

roughly 5.3 0-60 13.9 1/4 mile. It beats the M by a full 1/2 second + to 60 and thats allot.

I think the biggest problem is that the trans is such a piece of crap. I think the torque capacity of the trans is marginal so the computer pulls timing (likely) to limit low end torque and not damage the trans.

The engine makes decent power but the trans does a lousy job of getting it to the pavement.

I'm with ronez. I can burn them down with little to no effort and the fun is quickly halted if the VDC is on.

2 people riding, straight line, turning, any pavement I've found so far...no problem off the line.

I drive an M 'cuz G is for Girl!

Just read some of the BG44K website pages -- could easily be the O2 sensor. The tank additive will NOT address that issue; replacing the sensor OR removing it and cleaning it is your only recourse, assuming the BK thru your tank doesn't help. Good luck -- let us all know what happens.

Reg is right the 07+ g35 with 306 horsepower are faster than the 03-04 M45. I don't know why but the 03-04 must have some kind of non aggressive gearing or something because the new design 06+ m35 seem to have very similar performance figures, and the M45's with the exact same engine seem to be about a 3/4 second quicker.

I agree.I've had a loaner for the past 2 days and there's a noticeable difference. Also why can't our M's have push button start with a proximity fob?I'll make sure not to taunt a current model G anymore!

Older design in our Y34 model years.

In 2003, 2004, the G did not have push button starts either. In fact, I think the first ones to do so were the 2006 M ... as I recall, that was before the G got them.

Only if you want to replace your AT sooner! Even an auxiliary ATF cooler will not help its life with this type of abuse!

Mine will always spin the tires from a stop in 1st no TC.

Speaking of transmissions, I read about a company in New Jersey: IPT Import performance transmissions. They are supposed to have experience with the 5 speed Nissan transmission in the M. Has anyone heard of or used them?
