2003 M45 bought it with 24K. Now it has 32K. It uses about .5 - 1qt per 1000 miles.

Twice now I had issues related to the lifters "bleeding" down". In both cases it was after I started the car for only 1-2 minutes to move it in the driveway. Next day when I went to use the car, serious engine shake, loud lifter noise and very rough idle. It takes maybe 5 minutes running at idle before all the symptoms disappear. I have learned to never start the car if you are not going to use it until the next day unless you take the time to let the coolant come up to temp. I am hoping this is a correct diagnosis. I would hate to think that the engine somehow loses prime in the oil system and the engine has no oil pressure for an extended period.

As far as oil, I bought the car from a Ford dealer. I think it may have had stamdard Ford semi syn 5w-20. I shifted to Mobile 1 5W-30, but consumption seems to have increased versus the "Ford" oil. I am now running Mobile 5000 10W30 for the next few fills. I have lost faith in Infiniti since my old 1999 Q45 with 150,000 miles could easily go 5,000 between oil changes.

use full syn. 10w30 and change every 3k and not 3750k. i better for the car. couple oil changes and you will be o.k.

Ever have the "bleed down" phenomenon?

The service history for my car from Infiniti says the car had a "similar" problem at 18K miles. The owner claimed there were noises from the engine, low oil light, smoke from the exhaust and tapping noises when started cold. The dealer claims it was engine deposits due to poor gas. (ITB 02049A) The only other major issue was a MAF failure at 5K miles.

I am inclined to believe it was a similar incident I have seen twice.

Had a simlar effect in terms of oil consumption.

I got my M45 with 32k miles on it. Switched to Mobil one synthetic and it started using 1qt between changes (3750 miles).Stuck with synthetic for three oil changes before switching back to conventional oil. Barely uses any now. but my gas mileage was better on the synthetic.
