The gas gauge in my 2003 M45 is misreading. It showed 1/2 full with 131 miles to go and I ran out of gas. Filled it up and the gauge read correctly. It seems to malfunction below 1/2 tank. Any thoughts about what is wrong and what it will costs to fix? Thank you.

This is a very common problem on the Y34. There are plenty of posts about this topic on this forum if you search for it. ALso, it is a fairly simple DIY job but will require replacement of the cluster, which can be costly out of warranty

how many miles on it? You might be able to pick up an ELITE warranty which takes effect the day you buy it. Wait a week, then take it in for repairs. My dealer repaired mine (replaced cluster) for free, even though the factory warranty had expired and I had not yet purchase the extended warranty (which I now have...) BUT -- my M45 only had 38K miles (this was 3 months ago...) and ALL of the service and maintenance has been done ONLY at Infiniti. Plus, we bought a new EX35 and have that serviced there as well. So, it depends - but the service managers ARE aware of this problem and most will work with you to fix it. Push for "free".

I have about 57,000 miles on it. Too much for elite? if not, how much do they cost?

DO a search on Warranties to get the number, or Google it, but - I would Call Courtney at Scottsdale Infiniti NOW and inquire - I think it's 60K miles... but don't know for sure. You may only be able to buy a 24 month/24K mile ELITE warranty (do NOT go with any 3rd party non-Infiniti warranty). My understanding is that the gauge cluster replacement is about $900 to a grand to have the dealer do it, so that alone might sway you to buy the warranty.

Of course the other option is to reset your trip meter each time you fill up and then refuel every 250 miles or so.
