I just want to cry. While testing points on my screen connector for a custom video integration install, everything went out. I unhooked my battery, tested all the fuses under my hood and see nothing obvious. Here are some symptoms:

Screen doesn't come on (non-navi car)Buttons don't turn on Climate control, stereo, anything else on the panelButtons on super switch panel don't lightSpeedo and tach don't lightTape deck won't take a tapePower steering column and power seats won't work when car is running.Column and seat controls work when car is not running.

Anyone know how all these things are tied together? I feel sick to think how much a dealer will charge to fix this.

Assuming it is not something simple like a fuse or two - as you noted - then you may have fried something by shorting it out ... You might want to search for a fuse or fusible link near the electronics.

This, by the way, is the reason I always strongly advise having extended warranty coverage past the point where you expect to keep the car ... modern cars are chock-full of expensive electronics.

I feel the pain. Ran out of gas shortly after getting my used M45 because that part of the dash display was not functioning fully. As car was purchased knowing it had a poor ownership history, I got it at a price that allowed for taking care of problems.

Extended warrenty? I have learned (this is my 5th Infiniti owned, still have 3) that the best reason to buy Infiniti is their general service record of high reliability. My most expensive repairs on the 2 J30's I owned would not have been covered by warrenty, as they were both timing belt replacements. Other issues, like the radio giving out, also would not be covered.

My M30 which now is 18 model years old -- same fantistic recond of non-warrenty repair needs.

Yes, the M45 has been a little different, but I am learning from this Group what the weak spots are, so I can pay closer attention to them.

Thanks for the replies!I was not thinking clearly after it happened. I was thinking I did something that would cost a grip to fix, so I couldn't make sense of anything I was reading in the service manual because I was flippin' out. I just wanted to ask everyone here and hope the answer was served to me so I could stop worrying. So it seems that cars made in the last 20 years usually have more than one fuse/relay panel. I've only owned 80's and older cars since now. The next day I realized that power doesn't cut out that quickly from shorting something to ground unless it is fused. So I went through the manual with a sane head and found out about the two other fuse boxes. Checking the fuses was highly suspenseful because I just went at it without finding out which fuse was for the driver info system. The problem was nearly the last fuse in the final panel I checked. So now it is fixed and I'll be getting back to the video interface install! More carefully this time.........
