Im planning on buying a 2003 M45 soon. I am curious if the computer in the center console with the GPS/Stereo/Car Info can be upgraded or modded? i understand in 2003 it was really good graphics but i want a more modern look if possible.

thanks!Austin

Well, anything is possible. It just depends on how much money you want to spend. From what I have seen, nothing is really being made for our cars in the aftermarket. I went to Crutchfield.com and they hadnt even tested the M45 to see what fits. I guess we're just unpopular. Since everything revolves around that one unit, it would be pretty tough to alter it unless you completely redid everything.

I admire your idea, but those projects will cost you a grip. The back camera may be an option. I've seen some Q45 guys with the backup cam mod.

Its funny, but I bought this car because it didnt have all that stuff you mentioned. Bluetooth, gps, navagation, etc... All that jazz never really appealed to me. The blandness of the interior and gauges is what really turned me on. But anyhow............Hell..... I cant remember the last time I even pushed that voice recognition button

I was just thinking about that the other day...I've not talked to "Emmie" in quite awhile.

My daily commute has me out of touch with her maps and daggum if I could get her to set the temp and station for me in one conversation these days.

I'll just keep the pedal down and not complicate her life.....

Hello,With the 2003-2004 models, the only thing really missing with current cars is Bluetooth. Though not widely available, Y34's equipped with the Technology package (Navigation, Intelligent Cruise Control) are truly up to date. Unfortunately, most 2003's were not offered with it. Oddly, many 2004's were equipped with the package. The Technology package with the mandatory Premium package added almost 10k on to the purchase price.Cheers,ML

Mine is for sale, just so you know. Great car. Sorry had to throw that in there.

Things can be done, just have to have the want and know how. I work for Kenwood USA's car division, if I end up keeping the car I will be replacing the factory climate control/radio screen with a Kenwood Nav piece DNX-9140 to be exact. Hopefully I will be able to intergrate the same input that the factory screen uses and convert it to composite video in into the Kenwood unit aux in. If this doesn't/won't work, then I am going to move the factory screen down to where the tape deck is and keep it connected so I can see the climate settings. Hopefully the car sells and I don't have to do this, but I am kinda wanting to give it a try so we will see.

This is what I was thinking about doing, maybe it will give you an idea.

First install a monitor switcher that would let me go back and forth between two sources on the stock screen, that way you would still maintain a stock look. Here is the one I was thinking of.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com....html

Then get something like this

http://mobile.jvc.com/product....age=3

I have an O4 so I was thinking of mounting it where the CD changer is in the center and the changer in the glove box or ditching the changer all together. Most head units have very in depth remotes now days so you could get creative on where you would want to mount it.

Then I would patch the audio into the tape player using the mod Boon has outlined.

Just an idea, as was said before given enough money you can do anything you want.

I liked this idea cuz it seamed to give me every thing I wanted as far as nerdy tech features, it was not intrusive into the looks of the center section, and considering how cheap single DIN head units are now days it didnt break the bank.

Keep us posted.
