My I35 starts fine but the Battery and Brake lights are lit. When I go into drive it ticks along at 5mph max like it is straining. When I put it in neutral the motor revs fine. After 5 or so minutes the lights go off and it has all the power it needs. Help me. Mechanic is baffled.

Check and see if battery and alternator are ok with multimeter
When engine running it should have about 14.4 volts at the battery
Try unplugging the mass airflow sensor. If it runs better then it might be that.

thanks for your reply. Turned out the battery went dead. Alternator was ok and charging strong. New battery in now. I get the brake and battery lights once in a while when cold and the car not run for a day or so, but they go out in a minute or so. No loss of power yet however since that one time. Now it is just an annoyance with the lights. Last time I had the mass airflow valve go out it generated an error code. None so far. Still confused.
