Last week, I smelled antifreeze and noticed that there was a crack in the radiator. The radiator was changed and it still runs hot. The thermostat was changed and it still runs hot. There are not any visible leaks. What else should I check for or what could be wrong? Thanks

Welcome to NICO!

Need to bleed the system. You have an air bubble somewhere.

Thanks Joe. How do you bleed it?

With a cold engine remove radiator cap and fill plastic overflow reservoir to the cold mark

Start engine and let run until normal operating temperature and watch coolent level. Air bubbles should come out. Replace cap and refill reservoir if necessary.

I would carry a gallon of coolent until you are sure the problem is solved.
It is also possible that you have a defective thermostat or a water pump problem.

Good luck

If I'm going to drain the coolant just to replace water pump do i really need to buy 2 gallons of antifreeze to refill the system? The Manual says it takes 9 plus quarts.

Simply, yes. You probably will drain it completely or nearly when you remove the water pump. While doing this I would replace the thermostat as well.

If the manual states 9 quarts and there are 4 quarts to a gallon than you need more than 2 gallons.

Buy 3 gallons.
