Gents & Ladies,

My car developed an engine knock about 1 year ago, and I have been trying to solve it unsuccessfully until this day. I dealership tried several fuel injection services and I have also tried Techron and BG44k with no luck. I have tried revving the engine @ 3k for about 10 mins, and driven hard in an effort to clear out the carbon build up. I also now only use Shell and Chevron fuel. I'm running out of patience, time, and money...anyone else experience this issue with their I35 and/or Maxima?

Is your service engine son light on? Have you checked for any codes at an Autozone or other local major parts chain?

Engine light is not and I haven't gone to AutoZone to run the codes. Do you think that might surface the issue? Don't you think the dealership would've run the codes? They said they hooked the computer up and nothing unexpected came up.

Does it only knock under load, or is it a knocking at normal idle? My impression of the knock sensor is that it will not trigger a code, you could always have it replaced for giggles (and a price as well). Have you had the MAF sensor serviced or cleaned, I would try that. It is in your air stream and will not be cleaned by the internal fluid cleaners. Since you do not have a CEL on, they pretty much presume that your car is fine. --Mike

The dealership also cleaned the MAF sensor as one of the first attempts at fixing this. My impression is the car is fine as well, but it should not be knocking at all. It only knocks under load around 2k RPMs...nothing at all at idle or even if I'm in park and revving at 2k rpm. Think the knock sensor might just be bad?

Nope still no luck. Although I'm having flying up and down streets trying to the rpms as high as I can in an effort to burn off any carbon. I have 2 more cans of bb44k left to run through, i'm out of options and nearly out of patience. Yours only makes the rattle around 2000 rpms too?

I have the same problem on my wife's car. Happens around 2k rpm under light load. Some things I have notice:- the engine does use oil (burns it, no leaks on the floor)- I have seen the problem show up when the engine oil level was low. Not low enough to be under the low mark on the dip stick but not on the full mark. If i did fill the oil a bit more the problem seems to go away or not be as loud.- PCV valve seems to help. Replaced it a couple months ago and problem went away for a good while.

It sounds like this a pretty common problem with this engine. This an and the engine seems to burn a good bit of oil. I havent see any fixes for this yet.

hello, used chevron fuel injector and the noise went down a little bit.. guys at autozone said chevron was the best so I used it and it still makes the noise but hey if it aint dying on me then what the hell I give upp..... I have read my other posts and all others have not found a solution yet so i guess this is a common problem with this car... Anyway if you find any let us know... Hey by the way I just read also that it can be caused by the knock sensor???!!!!! or the fuel something needs to be cleaned if that makes any sense.... Lolz

Thanks
