I've got some good experience with older cars so I'll offer my view point.
As with any used car, if you are considering it, make sure you have it inspected by a trusted mechanic or an official Infiniti dealer.
Generally there is always a risk with buying used, but there is money to be saved if you are lucky.
In my family we have 2 Toyotas passing 240,000 miles (2002 & 2007) and a Subaru around 225,000 miles (1995). The Toyotas are pretty much still on general maintenance... no surprise problems besides increased oil consumption (still a pretty cheap remedy as far as fixes go) that I can remember at all. The Subaru has a lot of rust and a couple CV joints have been replaced along with probably 6 wheel bearings and some suspension replacement. (spaced pretty evenly over the last 15 years). I personally have a 2004 G35 sedan that I purchased used @ 123,000 and is now @ 149,250 - absolutely no issues. Engine and transmissions in all 4 of these cars have been bulletproof.
In terms of specifics, there were probably a few repairs along the way I'm forgetting, but nothing huge. I guarantee these cars have saved more money than buying a new one after 175k or so. That said, this is all anecdotal evidence with 3/4 cars being purchased new (or basically new) and I certainly consider this to be abnormally lucky. We had a few other vehicles in the early 90s to early 2000s range that had to be ditched (some around 100,000 miles) due to reliability.
My personal opinion, even if it looks well maintained and everything checks out, $4000 would be my hard upper limit. If there are any signs of issues, walk away.
It's a gamble... if you think you can afford the risk, for what it's worth, it's a fun car to drive and looks pretty good too.
Good luck, Lars
