Just bought wife a G35 sedan and it's time to change the oil. Is this easily done at home? I briefly looked under the car and the entire engine looks like it has a cover over it. Any suggestions, comments greatly appreciated.

Oil change procedures are normal but you do have to remove the lower cover to get access.

+1 Welcome!

Do yourself a favor and remove the cover prior to starting. It will make the job easier and cleaner

True, its not hard, just time consuming with taking the lower panel off (20 or so bolts) to get access to the drain plug and filter. Don't touch the top cover, only thing to touch up there is the oil fill cap.

Oil filter is easy to get to, wish they'd thought of that on my KA-engined cars.

Thanks guys. I'll take the cover off first, then search for the parts. I'm assuming nice mobile one 5-30, yes? Car has 79kmiles.

My VQ35 loved 10w-40 royal purple...but that was the rev-up engine and I was concerned about oil burning.

I'm running M1 5w-30, no issues so far that I've noticed. Maybe I'll switch to 10w-30 in summer or something. And I'm just running OEM Nissan filter, but there are a few that I'd trust (Mobil 1, etc).

It is not difficult to do.

I've done it over thirty times.

I have a Sears 4 ton hydraulic jack, jack stands, ramps, an old pink shower curtain that I place under the car.I believe there are fourteen 10mm bolts to remove the fiberboard shroud.(in photo below)It takes less than three minutes to remove if you have a cordless drill with a 3/8" drive socket adapter.

I can't do it today

Sorry boys but my Sedan has a cut out for the oil change to be done...

5w-30 Royal Purple ever 3-4k miles

I pull it up on ramps and take (I think 14 or 15 mm ratchet and remove the bolt.

then I reach up and take out the filter! I use the Plyer style oil filter tool not the rap around the oil filter and slip kinda tool lol...

I also make sure the car is cold when i do this... (in the morning and only run the motor for a few secs to pull it up on the ramps...

takes 10 mins tops

They all have a cut out. But I guarantee you have to clean up if you don't pull the cover out of your way.

You get the one from the Fabricators section? I love it, but $200+ is just too much money for what it is.

Thanks guys, changed the oil this weekend. Super easy except for the 14 bolts I had to remove that took forever. I'm thinking about leaving this cover off indefinitely because i don't want to have to do that every three months, what do you guys think? I'm not going to get rid of it, just set it in the garage.

you should just get the aluminum undershroud I'm producing. Much stronger but it has a much larger oil door for the oil change. 2 bolts and you can remove the door and get oil drain plug and filter out without making a mess.

That cover keeps lots of stuff out... also protects the underside from rocks and road debris.

It also affects the aerodynamics of the undercarriage.

Just make the opening a little larger so that you can acces it better...

I never take mine off nor did i make it larger...

Just my Advice
