2003 G35 Engine noise when cold

When I start my 2003 G35 with 98000 miles after it has been sitting a while the engine sounds like its chirping or clattering. When it warms up after about 15 min. it sounds fine. Anyone had this problem or have some imput as to a possible solution?

I have the same noise on my 04 sedan but I only noticed it below 10 degrees (F)....I live in Ottawa and the temp here has been well below -10C lately...but your right...it goes away after the engine is warm...

Well I live in San Diego so it cant be because it is cold? I hope someone has a solution for us. I feel like my car sounds like chitty chitty bang bang until it warms up.

What's your oil rating? You may need thicker oil since you live in colder climates. I Use 5w30, but i live in florida and right now it 72 degrees outside.

I think it is because the engine runs richer until warmed up shouldnt be anything to worry about unless the sound is knocking. what grade gas are you using?

Now thats a question I will have to ask the guys that change my oil. I live in San Diego area what would you suggest?

Who changes your oil & what do they put in your engine?

I run 91 octane and royal purple 5w30...the engine makes a little clanky noise while it warms up. It was -14F here the other day...so I expect it to make some noise...I think I actually heard my car say "WTF?!?!?!" when I started it in that polar bear temp!!!! (car's originally from Florida!)

You are talking a brief chatter that you can hear at times? That's the chain and pretty normal with the VQ. I've heard it for the last 4 years.
