Hi forum....

With the engine pinging (almost) gone, I have noticed another weird noise from my 2003 FX45.

The sound seem to be originating from the transmission somewhere and it sounds like (I am not kidding) a cat meowing.

I can reproduce the sound consistently by accelerating moderately from standstill and then lift off the gas very quickly before the trans shifts to 2nd gear.

When I do this, I hear a very noticeable "wheeoowww" from somewhere, I assume it's the transmission.

In an effort to isolate the sound, I have tried stopping the car, putting the trans in Neutral and revving the engine to the same RPM's I would hear the whine at previously. I am not hearing the sound under these circumstances.

I brought this noise to the attention of my dealer at the last scheduled service which was about 2800 miles ago. When I got the car back from service, the noise was completely gone. The dealer claimed to have done nothing to the transmission.

Now that I'm close to my next regular oil change service, the sound is back. What's worse is: For the first time, I heard the noise during regular driving this morning. I was pulling away from a stoplight while accelerating only lightly.

The difference seems to be that the sound now appears not just when I lift off the gas, but also during normal, light, acceleration in 1st gear.

Am I getting too paranoid with my car? -Or has anyone out there experienced something similar?

ThanksMikkel
