So turns out, I have a wheel bearing going out. I jacked the front tires off the ground and spun each side and realized that my passenger side is gone.

My question is, how does the wheel bearing hub assembly attach to the steering knuckle? From what I can tell, there are some large Phillip-head screws barely accessible from the front, but I would think those just hold the metal trim pieces in place. I can't see any bolts on the back side that appear to hold it in place. Any help is appreciated.

Never mind. Have you ever been unable to see the forest for the trees?

I took the grease cap off and removed the nut with an impact wrench. I'll now have to research what the torque rating is for that nut after I get my new bearing.

The dreaded wheel bearing... One of the only things I will let someone else replace on my Q. I think you are better off getting the part yourself and letting a good shop do it as the warranty will be worth more than the hassle and possible screw up. Should be a max of 2 hours labor...

I can't imagine that you could screw this job up. After the wheel is off, it's 2 bolts for the brake caliper, and 1 bolt for the hub assembly. There is not a lot to screw up that I can see. Plus, it's about a 20 minute job once you have all the tools out of the tool box. The part is $125 online for a quality part. I found them as cheap as $35, but I spent the extra money for bearings that were made in Japan and a housing sold by an American company.

I also think that it wouldn't be that difficult to put a grease fitting on the dust cover and by pumping some fresh grease in every 50K miles, they should last nearly forever. When I took mine apart, it appears to have failed because the greased turned to a wax-like consistency.

Steve wheel bearing replacement on a F50 is much easier than a G50. I think my RF wheel bearing is going on one of my Q's.
