My 2003 Murano tramsmission overheats when going up a grade. It shifts to 2nd gear (5000rpm @ 70mph) and stays there, even after reaching the summit and will not return to normal rpm until I stop an let it cool. Two weeks ago I drove from Mammoth Lakes CA to Los Angeles (330 miles. I had to stop and let it cool thee times and then had to drive from Mojave to Loa Angeles (100 miles) at 5000 rpm.I have been to my dealer three times and the service manager says he has never encountered such a problem. Since the transmission operates normally in local urban conditions I cannot demonstrate it to him. Each time he says he will look into it and get back tm. Of course he never has.Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Welcome to NICOclub, it is a pleasure having you as a part of the Murano forum. Have you replaced your transmission fluid yet?

I am with Timmbo, when was the last time the fluid was changed, there is also a bulletin about replacing the valve body with a new one from Nissan that just came out a couple months ago. There was a problem with the 03 and 04 valve bodies and you have to replace them, the pan, some gaskets, new bolts and some other stuff. Call your local Nissan and see if you have the updated valve body in your vehicle, or you can just email me and I can check it for you.

The other issue I was getting at is to make sure you had the fluid changed at a Nissan dealer, you must use a specific transmission fluid with the CVT, I would only trust a Nissan dealer.
