Hey guys I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. last week the Service Engine Soon (SES) light turned on again. I went to autozone to get the codes read and I got 2 codes that it picked up. one is: P0725- Engine Speed Signal Circuit and the 2nd one: P0335- Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP or POS) Circuit Also car sometimes has a hard time starting or turning over especially when the weather is cooler. You have to crank it about 2-3 times for it to start What would cause both issues to occur at the same time? I just had cylinder work done (the mechanic replaced the faulty cylinder), spark plugs changed, 2 ignition coils replaced, valve cover gasket sealed with silicon, New battery(585 CCA), new rear drum brakes on both sides, inspection done, emissions done and passed.

I think it might be a recall item because of the failed crankshaft position center but not sure, and if it is, Can Nissan say that I am too late to qualify for the recall. The car was bought in 2003 I believe like March, didn't have any issues with it until now.

Ignore the first code, it's asociated with the second. You have a failed/failing crank position sensor. There is a TSB on Nissan Assist that gives the part number for a sensor kit, this kit includes a crank sensor and cam sensor. You will likely have a failed cam sensor soon. It is a very very very common problem. I do at least one set a week. You can do this yourself but it takes a little grunt to do.

*****side note*****
The plug on the harness has a pressure release security clip, these are easily broke or damaged. It could be as simple as your mechanic did not make sure the plug was secured properly and came off of the sensor.

I've had to replace these sensors 3 times on my 04 Altima. I am thee only owner. It's not that expensive and even better if you can do it yourself. There was a recall and Nissan told me my VIN wasn't part of the recall which is a total scam. Made me pretty angry but what can you do. Good luck and get that fixed soon it will not get any better only worse.
