Sporadically, the radio and the instrument panel in my 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 will completely cut off while the car is idling. Sometimes it's just the radio, sometimes it's both the radio and the instrument panel. It's only for a split second and then it comes right back on. This morning the engine sputtered slightly when it happened, but it never cut out completely. The battery in the car is less than a year old if that helps any.

Check out your alternator; my 2003 3.5 sedan had all kinds of weird intermittent electrical symptoms until the alternator finally got bad enough that it failed to charge the (new) battery, and I replaced it. Engine cutting out sounds like systemic voltage issue - alternator, not battery. Good luck.
