So far, i've been getting around 150-180 miles per tank when i fill on 91 octane. Thats with a mix of city/highway driving in San Francisco. Mostly city driving. Is it me, or am i getting REALLY crappy mileage. I admit, i do push my car at times, but i can't help it, its so tempting =). The infiniti manual said im supose to average 19mpg on city... it feels like im only getting 9 mpg... 70% city, 30% highway. any thoughts?

Study the parameters of the EPA test proceedure designed for a rural city in 1985..............little or no idling, no warm up time, few lights, worse than any grandmother acceleration, and 25 mph.

Real world today means deducting 3-4 mpg from the 1985 test numbers, then correcting downward for your driving style.

Same with highway do not exceed 60 mph ever.

The 2008 [all brands] will come with revised numbers which will drop 2,3,4 mpg across the board.

Are you buying ethanolized gasoline this will reduce MPG by 3% MINIMUM usually more like 4-10% below conventional gasoline.

The thing I don't understand, is I had a an '02 Maxima. It has 3.5 engine, 255 HP and the car weighed around 3300lbs.

Why did that get much better mileage than the G ? I drive them both about the same.

i'm getting about 300 miles to the tank and i do a fair amount of city driving and highway driving in nyc area. it would seem 150-180 to the tank is really low in my opinion, and i have the same car.

I've only had my 03 G35 Sedan for 3 weeks now but in the 2 tank fulls that I've used I've averaged 20.5 mile to the gallon. I couldn't find a station that offered 91 octane, so put in about 8 gallons of 93 and then finished itoff with about 8 gallons of 89 octane... Seems to work well.

ok, it seems that out of the last 10 times i filled up, i got around 160ish to a full tank. one time i got a little over 210, but that was because there was alot of highway driving. how weird.

How many gallons are in "a tank"?

If you want to know your fuel economy, you've got to calculate it by dividing miles traveled by gallons put in. Otherwise, the problem could well be your gauge saying the tank is empty when it's not.

You can see what others have been reporting on my site's fuel economy survey here:

Infiniti G35 fuel economy

It asks about driving conditions and driving style. No largely city tanks yet, I'm afraid. Those with 40-50% city appear to report mileage in the mid-teens.

the g35 automatic has pretty short ratios...and apparently a fairly short rear axle ratio cause my car runs like 3200 rpm while going 80 mph on the interstate. those short ratios are what give the g it's punch. but, i do wish it had a taller overdrive ratio for more relaxed and economical highway cruising...

When the fuel gauge says empty and i go fill up. I can usually put about 15.5 to 16 gallons into it. not sure how much is left in the tank before i filled up agian. anyone have any ideas?

my driving habits based on mkaresh's fuel survey,

YEAR: 2003.5Powertrain: 260-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-spd shiftable automatic RWDLand: FlatFoot: Heavy/MedA/C: noneTraf: 5%City: 70%Sub: 5%HWY: 20%HWY Speed: 70-80, every once in a while, 90-100 =) just for fun.

at this very moment, i have about 1/4 of a tank left running about 120 miles.

My 50,000 mile service is time, it cost about 700 dolllars they do a whole check up of the car. Do you think its likely to get better mileage after they do the tuneup?, im also going to install pop chargers and ztube once everythingG35 delivers my parts. """lets hope for improved gas mileage"""

It does sound like you're getting crazy low mileage, but more precise measurements of how many gallons you put in after driving how many miles would be a better idea than relying on the gauge.

With the service, check what the dealer says should be done against what the owner's manual says should be done. The dealer will often recommend many additional services. I suspect that an independent mechanic would perform the list of required services for much less, it's mostly just a bunch of quick visual inspections, the sort of thing many independent shops do for free if the car's already on the lift for something else.

The downside to not going to the dealer for service is that if you have an early major failure you're much more likely to get assistance from the manufacturer if you've been a loyal customer of a specific dealer.
