Hello, new here and I am curious about a sound my 2003 Nissan Altima makes when it starts. First off let me state that this is the 3rd engine in the car. 1st engine the catalytic converter was not changed and particles were sucked into the manifold and the car started burning massive amounts of oil. I determined we needed to replace the engine bought a 3000 dollar refurbished engine from Marshall engines located some where in Nebraska.
So we get the engine have a mechanic install it. Runs good then about 2 days into getting it back it makes a strange loud rattle on start up and it gets progressively worse. As 3 months rolls around, I was on my way to work when my engine started this loud banging I slowed down got to work called my father about it then went into work. I took it easy on the way home since it was a bad neighborhood where i was working and feared it would be broken into overnight. Loud banging continued all the way home. Talked to the mechanic and he spoke with the reps from Marshall Engines. Ends up someone assembled the "balance box" wrong so we had it replaced but by that time the damage was already done and there was a loud knock somewhere in the engine.
Again spoke to the engine people and sent us a new engine on them and paid the mechanic for there mess up. Well had it back for a week now and its making the same noise on start up. Is it safe to assume the balance box might be bad again? I posted some links to a few cell phone videos I have of it starting up and you can here the noise. Can anyone give any advice or know what the noise might be? My only concern is it will just get worse the longer I let it go like last time.
