I was wheeling today on Red Cone. For those that don't about the trail, there is a steep 40 degree down grade section. I was in 1st low going down the steep the 1st part. Near the end, it seemed like the clutch disengaged & I was free wheeling for about 25-30 ft, the the clutch grabbed and I skidded to a stop.
The clutch pedal was floored on its own & there was a clicking/racheting noise coming from the engine bay. The noise went away at higher RPMs
I stopped the engine & rolled to the bottom. I can change gears while the engine is off. The T-case would shift.
The clutch pedal worked its way back when I rolled down the hill.
Tried to start, but it wouldn't even with the clutch pedal pushed all the way in.
Coolermans CIBS to the rescue. It started with the CIBS.
I couldn't put it in gear. So we turned the engine off & put it in 1st. It started with the CIBS and was moving as it was now in gear. We could pull it out of gear fine.
No burnt clutch smell.
I drove it up the next hill on Red Cone & then down the final part after starting it in gear with the CIBS.
I stopped at the bottom. Turned the engine off then put it in 2 high Started in 2nd with gravity assist & got off the trail.
During that time getting off the trail, I was able to shift by blipping the throttle, much like a racer does. No gear grinding. Up & down the gears. Every gear worked.
Drove it home on I-70 that way, up to 70 mph.
The engine felt very rough at the lower RPMs <1500.
At Idle the engine is very rough, shaking the entire engine bay.
The clutch held tight, up Loveland Pass & Floyd Hill, with no slipage.
It seems like something broke between the clutch pedal & the clutch.
The clutch pedal has no effect on the drive of the truck & is a lot easier to push in. Zero resistance untill the floor.
I have a 2002 Supercharged 5-speed. I also have the Calmini gears. The suspension has the Calmini 3" lift. I also have a 2" body lift on, if that matters.
Any suggestions?
