I'm pretty sure you need the dealer to program it. I bought one off ebay and it was about $100 bucks for the dealer to do it.

Dealer quoted me $500 for a new key... lol.

Try to put a new battery. And you need to go to the dealer to program if the battery is not the cause. You might not need a new FOB.

This is the procedure to program your remote transmitter when you want to added or replaced your transmitter or there's a system malfunction:

You can program up to 4 key remote transmitters

1. Close all doors.2. Insert and remove key remote transmitter from the ignition switch more than 6 times within 10 seconds.3. indicators will flash twice.4. Insert key remote transmitter into the ignition switch and turn to ACC position.5. Press any button on first key remote transmitter to be programmed.6. Indicators will flash twice to confirm correct programming.7. Oldest key remote is now erased.

To program next key remote transmitter.1. Unlock then lock vehicle using lock/unlock switch on the driver's door control panel.2. Press any button on second key remote transmitter to be programmed.3. Indicators will flash twice to confirm correct programming.4. Oldest key remote code is now erased.5. repeat above procedure to program remaining key remote transmitters

To exit programming mode: open driver's door.

Check operation of all programmed key remote transmitters.

dealers can program these transmitters by using diagnostic equipment for a price.

Q45man1,Are you sure this is the procedure for the F50?

Also, does this program the key to actually start the car?

I thought I heard that a key programmed in this manner will unlock the car but not actually start it.

Thanks!Mike

When I bought my F50 3 years ago, I have added 1 more key fob and this is the programming procedure that I have used. Buy a new battery for your key fob.It should work!

Looks identical to the G50 procedure.

Hmmm...

I just tried this with an extra key fob I bought on ebay for my 2002 F50, and while it does program the remote to work the locks, it won't let me turn the key to actually start the car...

Any thoughts?

My understanding is that only the dealer can do this. I have heard that some locksmiths have bought the necessary equipment, but I have been unable to find one in my area. I think the price was somewhere around $100 when I priced it about six months ago.

I have been living off one key, but I need to just bite the bullet and fork over the money.
