Hey everyone! New member here officially but I've been reading now for over month. Have a dilemma and have thrown too much at my QX4 and now it's almost a personal mission to find the problem. I have a body vibration from 50 on..could be lower but it not noticeable. I started with it at 20 on. Here is what I've done..it's extensive. Has 130k.

New tires
New rotors and brakes
new front bearings (4)
new shocks and struts
Balanced both drive shafts
Replaced front axles
Swapped front differential
Swapped transfer case
All new bearings, and ring and pinion in rear axle

front drive shaft had a weight thrown, balancing helped the vibration but didn't eliminate it.

Took to five..yes five mechanics. .One was at infinity dealer. None could tell me what it is. Infinity said it's in the rear but exactly what they could say. There Dix was replace axle drum to drum. This after the rear was rebuilt. All weights are on the drums as well. They appear fine.

I can only describe it that it feels like a tire or drives haft vibration but both have been checked and rechecked by numerous places and they are fine.

Suggestions?

What are the odds an axle could be actually bent?

thanks,

Brian

You mentioned the tires have been replaced, but are you sure that you don't have a bent wheel? I had a similar issue and the tire shop didn't even check the wheel to see if it was bent, they just told me that they had a hard time balancing it. Later on I found out the wheel was bent really badly, which caused a very similar vibration on one of my previous vehicles.

Considering everything you've done, I don't see how anything else could be an issue. I assume you replaced your universal joints when the drive shafts were balanced?

Yep, ujoints replaced as well when I got them balanced. Wheels are straight and balanced out great. Going to pull the rear axles and swap them with some others I got from the yard. Wonder if a transmission can cause a vibration at speed?

Well, shop pulled both axles and swapped those out today. Still the same. All that's left is the transmission?

Trailing arm bushings are good, not rot or wear.

I have the same problem.I have a 2001 QX4. It started several years ago, I have replaced the rotors, brake calapers, brakes, wheel bearings(Japaneese made),struts, sway bar links(NAPA),Ball Joints,A frame, steering rack bushings, trailing links, trailing arms, tires(not out of round), the wheels are not out of round.

The vibration happens when I go over bumps. It comes thru the steering shaft and brake petal, and when I driving down the hwy over 65MPH. The only thing I have not replaced are the OEM steering rack, and the engine mounts. I have had several Mechanics and a few dealerships look at the Qx4 but no one has figured it out yet

I have a similar issue with my 2004 Pathfinder LE. My reason for quoting you Kompresshun is that I noticed in your profile info that we are very close geographically speaking. Do you know of any good places around Lexington/Nicholasville to get work done? My maintenance list is growing exponentially, and I do not know many places in Lexington yet (just moved from Frankfort in the last 2 years).

Hey there!

I HIGHLY recommend Abe's Foreign Auto on Versailles Rd in Lexington. It's a smaller shop but he does excellent work and is very reasonable. He's been working on my cars for a few years now.

Sorry for the double post. I wanted to add that I will post whatever I find with my vibration issue with my upcoming mechanic visit to this thread. These vibrations can come from anywhere and they are annoying as heck, but there is no guarantee that my fix will be your fix. Mine feels like an issue up towards the front of the car, but I occasionally feel a clunk when switching from forward to reverse or vice versa and when I let off the gas and then begin accelerating again without fully stopping so it could also just be my U-joints or even the rear differential. I'll report back here after my visit to the mechanic.
