Hey all,

First time poster here.. Hoping you guys can help me out.
I have a 2002 qx4 with 168,000 miles. I bought the truck back in March and have since had the following issues...

I had a cel come on and took it down to the local mechanic to have them pull the codes. The codes came back for idle air control valve and o2 sensor. I had them replace both parts and the truck was running fine for a couple of weeks. I then had another cel come on and took it right back. This time it was for the MAF sensor. I've since bad it replaced 3 times under warranty within 6 weeks. It keeps stalling on the highway and the cel comes on again for the same MAF code. Any ideas why the sensors keep failing?

Welcome to NICO.

Is P0100 the only current engine code?

Thoroughly check your air intake plumbing for leaks - spray brake cleaner around the intake parts to see if engine RPM rises. If it does, you have an air intake leak and the unfiltered air entry may be damaging the MAF sensor. Don't forget to spray around the air intake elbow.

Have you had your spark plugs replaced at or around 105,000 miles when they were due?

I took it in the first time and they got codes P0102 and P1102. They replaced the MAF sensor and on my way home from the mechanic cel came on again and it stalled. I went immediately to have codes pulled and this time it was only P1102. I have not checked the spark plugs yet... how would that trigger the MAF codes? I will check the intake plumbing and see if there are any leaks. I did forget to mention that when it does stall, I am usually able to get put it into neutral and get it restarted. Thanks for any help guys.

Follow steps 1 to 3 on page EC-481 of the factory service manual.

Was an OEM part used for the MAF sensor?

P0100 is actually not an applicable code for your model year QX4 (P0102 is, of course), and spark plugs also should not have anything to do with MAF issues in your case. Sorry for the confusion.

Hey guys, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Found out the mechanic used a refurbished MAF and from what I've heard, the QX4 does NOT like anything but oem. How difficult is this to replace by myself and what tools would I need?

You can use this Maxima MAF (it's $90 versus a $442 OEM Pathfinder/QX4 MAF; the part is identical). You'll need a tamper-resistant T20 Torx bit to remove the MAF sensor and a 10mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal before unplugging the MAF sensor harness, but otherwise it is a very straightforward process.

Thanks guys. I already got the part from my local infiniti dealer and swapped it out today. Piece of cake to swap it myself. However I drove it down the street and back and vehicle still stalled when I came to a stop light. Hoping maybe resetting the check engine light may fix it. Hopefully it will "learn" the new oem MAF. Otherwise it looks like I will be taking it to the infiniti dealership in a couple of days. :(

Perform the idle air volume learning described on page EC-70 of the factory service manual.

Hello. Guess im reviving an old thread by I'm currently having issues with the maf sensor on my 02' pathfinder 2wd. I originally scanned my CEL light and the code P1102 came up telling me the mass air was bad. I went ahead n took a chance with picking up a used maf sensor off a 3.5 maxima @my local junkyard before buying an aftermarket replacement or an expensive oem dealer sensor. After installing the sensor the car idles and drives fine and the CEL light hasnt returned ever since but i still have 1 issue. Whenever i floor the truck or go above 70% throttle i would say, the truck accelerates pretty good on low end but starts lagging above 3k rpm and feels held back and wont accelerate to higher rpm. Also, when i let off the throttle during this condition it tends to shift roughly and very delayed which it didnt do before the oem maf sensor went bad on it. So my main question is, Is this maf sensor a proper replacement for my oem truck sensor or is this what seems to be causing my truck to respond slower under hard acceleration?? I also followed a link on this thread above and read thru the Nissan ECS book to try and find answers to my issue but didnt find a concrete answer. The only thing i did try was the IDLE AIR LEARNING process to see if that makes a difference. Please let me know of any other ideas or suggestions you guys may have for this issue and thanks for the help in advanced.
