I'm trying to find a way to put a direct auxiliary input into my car so I can hook up my iphone to it and not affect the sound quality. [[I got an fm transmitter.. and that sucked]] Is there one in the car already, possibly behind the head unit, or would I have to get a new stereo installed. (I have the stock audio system)

Yeah I tried the cassette player input, and the quality wasn't as crisp as I'd hoped it would be. Maybe I had a lower end one. But I'm just wondering if there's an aux input behind the head unit that I could run a cable to, because I know a direct input would give me good sound quality. And my CDs skip like mad on it too.

the other option i could think of is splicing a connection into the existing harnesses, but in theory that might only work if the HU and cd unit were separate as the HU would think its signal coming from the CD unit but its not.

only thing is our HU is all together, so it processes inputs from within the unit, not the wires, so yeah im 100% sure your only option is the cassette thing i mentioned or new HU

I was looking into the same thing a few months back, removed the head unit and found no other inputs. Only way is to change the whole thing.I went with the cassette option as well. I used to use the Sony adapter but noticed on cold days it would not work properly and give me a tape error message. I bought a Belkin adapter a few months back and that has worked well even in the cold weather.

Hope that helps!

I think to use your iPhone or any other sort of auxiliary device you would need something like in the link below. It acts as an external disk changer and it plays the auxiliary device (iPhone in your case) through the factory head unit. It doesn't come with the iPhone/iPod composite cable so you would need to supply that.

For the money you would spend to adapt your factory head unit, it would just be better to get an aftermarket unit with an auxiliary input.

On my 2001 QX4 the 6 disc indash CD changer started to act up, so I put in a USA Spec ipod adapter/interface. It basically replaces the CD changer function through the back of the stock HU's wire harness. Once installed, you use the CD changer botton on the stock HU to operate. On the USA Spec ipod adapter/interface, there is an ipod cable come out from the interface unit, also there is an additional rca aux intput on that interface. The rca aux input can be used with XM radio, HD radio or whatever that has a left and right rca output (I used it for XM radio).

I am sure it is possible! Back a few years ago when I was huge into Saabs I remember this. I had to do some mega searching to find it. If you can find a complete diagram for our radio or know of someone who knows the radio well, I am sure you can do this. http://photo.platonoff.com/Aut...nput/ Personally I would just upgrade the head unit. Let us know if you do something about it.

What's the manufacturer and model number of the adapter/interface?

I've indicated that I have a 2001 year model QX4 and appearantly the 2002 & 2003 year models that don't have one for. So if you have a 2001 or earlier year model they do have an adapter/interface for them. The manufacturer is USA Spec & the model # is PA15-NIS Here is a link of an online store you can purchase this from, also you can search for different vhehicles >> http://www.mp3carpros.com/prod...d=203

Rats. They have one for the 2001 QX4, but not the 2001 PF.

No so fast to say that it is not compatiable, look and read on >> http://www.oem-interface.com/?p=55 The USA Spec PA11-NIS will work with your 2001 Pathfinder. Amazon have them in stock >> http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...N4XJI

Thanx.

From USA Specs web page the PA11-NIS appears to be out of the productline, but the PA15-NIS will also work with the 2001 PF. Interestingly, the dropdown menus to "find your vehicle" don't include the 2001 PF.

Yea, I know....it looks like not all the websites have updated their data base interms of older and or more recent adapter/interface units. When I first was doing a research for one, the PA11-NIS was the newest one for my application. Since then, I have upgraded my ipod interface cable to my older/no longer in production PA11-NIS. The ipod cable that originally came with it, does not support the newer ipods (new iPhone 3g, as well as the new iPod Nano and iPod touch). It now plays and charges the most current ipod units out there. I think or believe that the PA15-NIS is just a renamed version of the older PA11-NIS unit, but with the updated ipod cable. More information can be found here >> http://enfigcarstereo.com/shop....html

I used this website for a step by step installation when I did mine some 2-3 years ago >> http://reptilelabour.com/perso....html The QX4 & PF are more or less the same, so I can't see that this install process is any different.

The PA15-NIS is not just a rename of the PA11-NIS. The PA15-NIS adds anaux input (which is actually something I'm a bit interested in). And addssatellite receive compatibility (which I DON'T care about).

Any ideas if this adaptor (PA15-NIS) will work with the Bose stereo for a '98? The Changer has a separate button on my Bose stereo as opposed to the combined CD/Changer button on some of the newer models.

It's a single CD Bose head unit with the knobs to control the Bass/Treble/Fade/Balance.

Looking at the pics, it would seem that it's compatible, but want to check with the experts before dropping the coin on it.
